Candy Digital, a leading NFT startup, is partnering with Major League Baseball (MLB) to release fresh digital collectibles for the 2023 season. As the official MLB partner for the third year, Candy Digital is overcoming recent challenges and preparing for a thrilling new season.

MLB fans are in for a treat as Candy Digital unveils its 2023 MLB Showstopper ICON series. This NFT collection features 43 top MLB stars and is priced at $43 per pack, each containing three player collectibles. The demand for these collectibles was high, as they sold out in just three minutes.

In the past, Candy Digital faced some obstacles. Late in 2022 and early 2023, the company had to let go of over one-third of its 100-person team. Additionally, Fanatics, a major sports merchandising company, sold its majority stake in Candy Digital to a group led by Galaxy Digital. Despite these setbacks, Candy Digital has remained resilient and is looking forward to a bright future.

Candy Digital’s CEO, Scott Lawin, spoke about Fanatics’ continued support, explaining that they still hold a smaller investment in the company. He also mentioned that there could be opportunities for both companies to collaborate in the future.

Lawin addressed the recent layoffs and market volatility, sharing his belief that many players in the space needed a long-term vision. He noted that most of these short-term players, or “tourists,” have left the market, allowing dedicated businesses like Candy Digital to continue building and growing.

Commemorative Game Tickets and Future Plans

In addition to the MLB Showstopper ICON series, Candy Digital will also offer commemorative game tickets for the upcoming season. Last year, nearly 200,000 NFT collectible tickets were redeemed by fans attending MLB games. Although fans still need to buy traditional tickets for entry, Lawin envisions a future where NFT collectible tickets also grant access to events.

Candy Digital has ambitious plans for the future, including expanding its partnerships and digital collectible projects. The company has already worked with Netflix, using 3D volumetric technology to create digital collectibles from the popular show Stranger Things. Lawin also mentioned the potential for augmented reality (AR) integrations and collaborations with organizations like the National Baseball Hall of Fame, NASCAR teams, WWE, and Getty Images.

Collaboration in the Sports NFT Space

As the sports NFT space continues to grow, Candy Digital is in good company with other major players like Dapper Labs and Sorare. Though competitors in the market, Lawin expressed interest in working together with Sorare to provide enhanced utility for collectors and fans.

In conclusion, Candy Digital is overcoming its recent challenges and pushing forward with innovative MLB NFTs. As the company continues to grow and adapt, fans can look forward to a thrilling new season and exciting collectibles.
