Brave Announces SpeedReader With Enhanced Performance, Privacy and Features

Brave announced on November 15 the new SpeedReader, a new approach to reader mode that works in a much efficient way. According to the official report, it will make surfing the website a much faster and pleasant thing.

The new tool is useful in 22% of new web pages and has higher capabilities on Twitter and Reddit. With this implementation, there will be improvements in speed, memory reduction and bandwidth savings. According to the report, the speed will increase between 20x to 70x, bandwidth savings will reach 84x and the improvement on memory used will be 2.4x.

At the same time, the announcement informs that there will be improvements in privacy by completely eliminating ad and tracking related request. The main intention with these improvements is to provide a more private and faster platform for users.

SpeedReader will also be removing all the non-essential content before the page loads. This would allow users to save time and bandwidth at the same time that it will be removing ads and trackers.

SpeedReader works before the page rendering and determines the resource that is needed before fetching. In terms of privacy, by applying the tree transduction, it offers a reduction in scripts executed.
