HTC, the Taiwan-based smartphone maker, has announced that its latest smartphone Exodus 1 comes with the latest blockchain technology. With the phone’s help, users can swap 60+ ERC 20 tokens, including Kyber Network (KNW), Basic Attention Token [BAT] and the stablecoin DAI, on their phones directly.

The phone includes a Web 3.0 browser by Opera, which will help them undertake crypto-transactions with ease. With the HTC smartphone, users can call for ETH, BTC, and LTC requests, and will get access to other DApps on the phone, via the Opera crypto-browser.

Exodus 1 is a built-in wallet that is integrated with Kyber Network liquidity, allowing users to transact directly, without the help of any third-party exchange. With the release of Exodus 1, HTC plans to keep the tech-savvy on their toes and bring the cryptocurrency realm into the mainstream.

Phil Chen, HTC’s Decentralized Chief Officer, said,

“The Bitcoin blockchain is about 200 [gigabytes], and it’s growing about 60 gigs per year. And those numbers are reasonable to hold on a smartphone. Imagine the iPod with 256 gigs … of course, the music fan wants to keep the whole music library but the crypto fan wants to keep the whole Bitcoin blockchain.”

HTC will be revealing more details of the phone, including features and price, among others, in the near future. HTC is currently looking to lower the entry barrier for any person to run a node on their phone as full nodes are the most important ingredient to the resilience of the Bitcoin network.

With HTC and Samsung announcing the integration of blockchain technology with their phones, the smartphone industry may be taking the next few steps in the crypto-revolution.
