Air Canada Will Use Winding Tree Blockchain Technology For Its Travel Distribution Platform

2018-10-26 01:48

The largest airline in Canada, Air Canada, has recently announced that it is going to use the blockchain technology developed by the Swiss blockchain group Winding Tree on its new platform. The information comes from a press release published by the company on October 24.

Air Canada has signed a letter of intent to mark the beginning of the partnership with Winding Tree. A new blockchain platform will be created by this partnership and this will help the company to improve the distribution and the sale of air travel products that can be provided directly from their suppliers.

The Director of Global Product Distribution at the company, Keith Wallis, has affirmed in the press release that Air Canada understands the importance of using the blockchain and that it intends to use the Direct Connect API of Air Canada with the blockchain from Winding Tree to create a platform in which users will be able to get content directly from the original source.

This is part of a larger movement from many airports and air companies around the world that are focused in improving the services of their customers by using the blockchain technology, which is set on disrupting this market, as well as many others like finances and logistics.

For instance, the European air company Air France-KLM has partnered with the same Winding Tree to use the blockchain as a way to reduce costs at the same time that the clients would be able to reduce the intermediaries and middlemen that only made the process more complicated and expensive.

According to Air France, the blockchain will help the company to provide more advantages for its customers and to reduce the number of intermediaries. As many companies are following this path, it looks like the blockchain technology might change forever the way that these companies operate.
